Sony Pictures in association with Overbrook Entertainment are set to begin production on the major sci-fi epic thriller feature film “After Earth” which had previously been titled “1000 A.E.” Shooting will take place in Philadelphia and some out of town locations beginning at the end of February and run thru April 2012. The casting director is seeking teens ages 14-19 in the Philadelphia area to appear in the film as background performers playing military cadets. No prior acting or background performing experience is required, and both union and non-union talent will being considered.

The hit Lifetime Television legal comedy-drama series “Drop Dead Diva” is in production on it’s fourth season in Atlanta, Georgia. Universal Pictures is currently holding an open casting call for extras to work on a major feature film with a $100 million dollar budget starring Tom Cruise. Background performers who wish to be considered should attend the casting call, however emailed submissions are being accepted also. Shooting will take place mostly in New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Additional filming will take place in Los Angeles, New York, and the country of Iceland. Jerry Bruckheimer Films and Walt Disney Pictures have begun principal photography on the star studded feature film “The Lone Ranger”. Shooting is taking place in New Mexico, Colorado, and Utah through July 20, 2012. The casting director is seeking Caucasian men and women, Native American men, and Asian men to work as extras. Open casting calls are scheduled for March and April, 2012 in Colorado and Utah. New Mexico open casting calls have already taken place.

Anyone who has ever worked as a background performer (generally referred to as “extras“) on a film set or television show in Los Angeles has probably heard other extras talking about the stigma attached to people who do extra work on any kind of regular basis. The logic behind this stigma is based on the idea of directors associating extras as simply non-actors who fill the background of a given scene. There is a very common belief in Hollywood that if someone is recognized by a director as a person that was seen working as an extra, the director will only view that person as an extra, and will not take them seriously and hire them as a principal actor. But doing extra work can be of great benefit to aspiring actors.

Casting Society of America Artios Award winning casting director Bernard Telsey of Telsey & Company is holding an open audition in Los Angeles for the 35th Anniversary Broadway revival of the musical “Annie”. Online video submissions are also being accepted. The production is casting girls between the ages of 6 and 12 years to play the roles of Annie and the orphans Molly, Pepper, Duffy, July, Tessie, and Kate. No prior acting experience is necessary, and both union and non-union girls can audition. There are NO fees to attend the open casting call.
